The history of jewelry

Mesopotamia approx. 2500 BC

The Sumerian earrings from Mesopotamia, dating back to approximately 2500 BC. These earrings are made from lapis and sterling silver, with a 22 carat gold plating. The Sumerians were known to inhabit lower Mesopotamia, between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, from the middle of the 4th millennium BC until around 1792 BC.

They were skilled in shaping various metals, such as gold, silver, copper, and bronze, into intricate and useful objects. At the royal cemetery in Ur, many treasures were excavated, including jewelry, boxes, and statues, all richly adorned with lapis and gold, similar to these earrings. Like the Egyptians, the Sumerians had a fondness for blue lapis lazuli and polished gold.

The material used for these earrings is lapis and sterling silver with 22 carat gold plating and ear hooks.

The length of these earrings is 1.18 in
