Egyptian carnelian necklace - Thebes 3 double

  • $189.99

The history of the jewelry

This combination of blue ceramic beads, carnelian, and gilded links on this Egyptian necklace, is similar to the arm ornament that belonged to the high priest Pi-nudjem of Thebes. He was the de facto ruler of Upper Egypt towards the end of the 21st Dynasty (from about 960 BC onwards).

The original piece of jewelry combined gold, lapis, and carnelian pearls. Gold was considered a divine metal and referred to the shining sun god Ra. Lapis was sacred and reflected the blue sky, and carnelian was considered to represent physical strength and courage.

Material: Theben 3 double necklace in sterling silver with 22 carat gold plating. Lapis, carnelian, and gilded links.

Length: 19.2"
